CHURCH HISTORY >
The
Bainbridge Christian Church was
formed as a newly organized
congregation in 1861. The original
sanctuary and offices were
officially dedicated on October 15,
1861. The distinguished minister
Oliver Badger was called as the
first pastor to the new BCC
congregation. One of the earliest
guest ministers called to preach for
BCC was none other than Alexander
Campbell, who was an instrumental
leader in the Restoration Movement
in the Christian denomination. Also
preaching as a guest minister the
same Sunday was Isaac Errett.
The original structure was built
from wood that was donated from the
farm of Higgins Lane. After the
trees were harvested and the lumber
was planed at the Bainbridge Saw
Mill, Mr. Lane gave the building
materials to the congregation so
they could build a proper building
in which to meet. Everything from
the weatherboard siding to the pews
was made from this generous
donation. In the 1930s, the building
underwent extensive remodeling
including the addition of a basement
to house a new "Fellowship Hall"
area complete with a kitchen and
dining area. Then, in the 1950s, a
new educational wing was added
including a new minister's office,
nursery, and 5 classrooms. In the
1960s, a new baptismal was donated
by the Smith Family to help BCC
baptize new beilievers into the
family of God.
In 2004, BCC was able to purchase
the residential lot to the west of
the church. Several members
participated in the demolition of
the two structures that were on this
lot. The new lot will eventually
serve as home to a picnic
area/shelter house and also have
space for some extra parking as
well.
Future plans include
renovating/updating the bathroom
facilities and also installing a new
PowerPoint projector and motorized
screen.
